Hm… Been a while since I’ve uploaded here. It’s also been a while since I posted anything sfw here. Probably because it’s kind of a pain to upload stuff to two different websites at once. That being said, I guess this is the best place for something like this so why not? I hear next week (from when I’m posting this) Klei’s gonna reveal the next set of insight trees. And I wanted to throw my own ideas out there and see if I can come up with some cool stuff that might get in. Who knows? I do have ideas and if they resemble what gets in, neat!

Starting with my favorite character to play…

Why do I love playing as Wurt? I love raising armies and the merms are just better pigs. This concept mostly serves to improve what Wurt already does well.

I also gave her a fishing niche since, despite not eating them, she benefits moreso than other players from fishing. Between sanity, fish for merm houses, getting the fish equivalent of thermal stones, and trading with the fish king, she has far more uses for fish than most players who can only use them for food.

Most of the other stuff I came up with just serves to make playing as her more fun. Being able to swim would make early exploration much faster, and would make it so you didn’t need a boat to get to the lunar islands (which is kind of a necessity as Wurt). Being able to pull up sunken treasure would make Pearl’s quest less tedious, and honestly, why wouldn’t a merm be able to swim? Missed opportunity I feel.

Do I think they’d give Wurt and only Wurt swimming animations, diving animations, and the works? Probably not, but it’d be so cool if they did.

Moving on…

Willow’s a character that people seem to be agree doesn’t have a proper niche. I mean… I guess she’s better in summer than winter, but that’s not really what I mean. Wurt builds massive armies and demolishes bee queen. Wolfgang has double dps. Wanda’s high risk, high reward. Wes sucks, but Willow? She likes fire, but fire’s not very useful. It destroys loot so you don’t typically use it for fighting. And you know, that’s just too bad. Because when I look at Willow, I think she could make a great alternate dps class, focused on stacking fire effects and using them to debilitate enemies.

I’ve given her lots of fire based abilities (since no shit, that’s her thing) but also the first thing you unlock is overheating immunity since that’s a FAR more annoying threat than a bit of fire damage here and there. And also how can she overheat? Also I’ve made her more combat focused, making her make better use of fire than other characters without (technically) increasing. Now, she’s still likely to burn a whole forest down after a boss fight, but at least it’ll serve the purpose of bonus damage.

Now she can work as a support since fire causes bonus damage, with the downside of causing others chip damage through overheating or fire. Thematic and fair maybe.

Does this work on water based enemies or bosses? Probably not. (Haven’t tested but it wouldn’t make sense if they could) That’s fine though. I think the ocean can serve as a thematic weakness for Willow since her boat is flammable and she can’t utilize her fire abilities (again I think. I don’t know for certain).

That all being said, this sounds like a potential coding nightmare and I can think of many questions I don’t have good answers for, but ah well.

More to come, but Klei might share new details soon, which might change my own ideas moving forward.

Strange how this is the second time I’ve gotten mixels requests. Is this some hidden gem that like no one knows about?
